Instructor Accommodation Notification

UNA Disability Support Services is excited to announce that we are transitioning to using DSS PORTAL, an online portal where students and staff can manage accommodations more conveniently.  Faculty will receive an electronic notification of approved accommodations for students registered in their class.  Students will no longer bring you an accommodation form or email it to you for approval.

The ADA Accommodation Form is the venue for assuring you that the individual student has a legitimate, documented disability. It also outlines reasonable accommodations for the otherwise qualified student, as delineated under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

After you receive an electronic notification, go to the DSS PORTAL and complete the following steps:

1. Login to Instructor Login:

  • Use the same login credentials that you use for UNA Portal

2.  Click on view to review the accommodation information.

3.  Select to "confirm" & "acknowledge" the accommodation request.

  • The student will continue to contact you by email or phone to schedule a time to discuss any questions regarding the accommodations or implementation of during the course.  You may meet with the student via phone or Zoom appointment.
  • You are not required to meet with the student in person or physically complete/sign the accommodation form.

**If you believe the accommodation/s may be a fundamental alteration of the course, CONTACT the DSS Office IMMEDIATELY at dss@una.edu or 256-765-4214 to discuss further.

***To ensure you don’t miss any important emails sent through DSS PORTAL, add “post.accessiblelearning.com” to your safe sender list, or regularly check your junk mail folder

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the DSS Office at 256-765-4214 or dss@una.edu.
